Before you attempt to use the voice changer with a telephone, we suggest that you test its operation as follows:

1.) Hold the acoustic coupler against your ear. Turn the unit on by placing the slide switch to the "ON" position.
2.) Place the selector switch to the center "0" position.
3.) Speak ACROSS (not straight into) the microphone which is located on the front panel of the unit. You will hear your natural voice through the acoustic coupler.
4.) Now, experiment with different settings of the selector switch. The "+" settings will increase the pitch of your voice and the "-" settings will decrease the pitch.
5.) You will notice that you need only go one or two "steps" up or down in order to get a good "voice disguise" while preserving a natural quality to your voice. At more extreme settings your voice will not sound natural.
Connecting the Voice Changer to a telephone.
1.)
Place the acoustic coupler against the microphone portion of the
handset. Make sure the holes in the microphone portion of the
handset are fully covered by the acoustic coupler. Then wrap the
coupler's strap around the handset and fasten (see figure at
right).
2.) While holding the receiver to your ear, position the handset in such a manner that the microphone section with attached coupler is angled upward, away from your mouth.
3.) Turn the voice changer on by placing the slide switch to the "ON" position. Set the selector switch to the desired position.
4.) Speak in a normal tone of voice ACROSS the microphone of the voice changer (do not speak directly into it).
5.) At the end of your call, turn the voice changer off.
Replacing the Battery
Slide the bottom cover off (see figure at left). Replace the battery with a Mallory 9V Duracell or Eveready 9V Energizer style battery.
Use good quality alkaline batteries only
Remove battery from the voice changer if you are going to put it away for a long time. Old batteries can corrode.
Here are some tips to maximize the usefulness of the Voice Changer
1.) The Voice Changer changes the pitch of your voice.
2.) The less "drastic" you make the change, the less "electronic" your voice will sound. In other words, don't go up four notches, two will be just fine for most applications.
3.) Although your boss may not be able to tell that is you
calling when you use your voice changer, he WILL find out very
quickly this it is you, UNLESS you ALSO change your speech
mannerisms, slang usage and accent.
All we guarantee is that the voice changer will CHANGE your voice.
It is up to you to take care of the rest....
4.) From a technical perspective, there are three important things to bear in mind:
A.) Your voice will be changed and no longer sound like your natural voice.
B.) The acoustic coupler MUST be properly installed on the telephone handset, without "gaps", or you WILL NOT GET proper performance! This is VERY important (and 99.9% of all "problems").
C.) Experiment with how you hold the device and how you speak
into the microphone.
Angle the handset upward so as to have the maximum distance
between the coupler and the device's microphone.
Vary the distance of your lips to the microphone and the angle at
which you speak into the microphone until you find the best
position for your voice.
