Instructions for Recorders or Recorder Manual for more technical information.

1 When you say "10 hour recorder", is that the total recording time?
Yes, this is the total time for both sides of the cassette; after five hours the recorder automatically stops, you flip the cassette over and press the record button for another five hours of recording

2 What type of cassette does the 10 hour recorder use?
  A standard 120 minute cassette.

3 When I record on a 10 hour recorder, can I play the tape back on my car cassette player?
Since the 10 hour recorder runs at a very slow speed, you need to use a 10 hour recorder for playback. You can play the Viking recorder in a car using batteries or the 12 Volt DC option which allows you to power the recorder from the car's cigaret lighter.

4 I need to record off my scanner, automatically, while I am away. What type of recorder do I need? How do I hook it up to my scanner?
In most cases, you need a voice-activated long play recorder. We have applications literature that discusses recording from scanners and other receivers. GO THERE?

5 I need to record all of my phone calls, no matter what phone in my house is in use. I want all my calls to be recorded automatically whenever I make a call. What do you suggest?
You will need a voice-activated long play recorder and a telephone line interface. For a single line home phone you need the TA 100 interface. We have applications literature that discusses all aspects of recording your calls from your home or from your office. GO THERE?

6 I have listened to some awful-sounding long play recorders that were Panasonic/GE/Sony recorders modified for long play operation. How are your professional recorders different?
Yes, some companies buy these low-cost, consumer-grade recorders for $20 wholesale, do a "quick & dirty" modification on them and sell them for $200 - or more! Unfortunately, these modifications lead to very poor audio quality, these machines sound so "muddy" as to be almost unintelligible. Viking International recorders are heavy-duty, commercial machines. Since 1971, our "prime directive" has been that our recorders MUST be the best-sounding, and if you look at our list of happy customers you will realize that some of these users can not AFFORD to buy anything but the BEST. Also, see the review of our recorders in the April 1996 issue of Popular Communications.
