Preliminary Instructions

Upon receipt, inspect your unit closely to determine whether or not damage to the unit has occurred during shipment. If any damage is obvious, contact us immediately.
Assuming that the Touch-Tone decoder has arrived in good condition, proceed as follows:

Turn the POWER switch to the OFF position any time you install the power supply.

Plug the power adapter into a working 120 VAC outlet and plug the power pin into DC IN jack. The power connector's center pin is positive. Reverse protection is provided such that the unit cannot be harmed by incorrect power connection. Requirements are 9VD to 18VDC at 20 ma. Always have the power switch OFF when connecting or disconnecting the power source.

Plug the supplied cable into the SIGNAL IN jack on the decoder. Plug the other end of the cable into a radio, scanner, telephone*, etc.
*To install directly to a telephone line, you need to convert the 3.5 mm jack to the telephone line. A simple, well-isolated way is to use the TA-100 telephone interface.

Set up new default settings (optional)

Slide the power switch to the ON position.
You will observe an opening screen of: DTMF-LOG-VER.2.1

Press switches SW1 and SW2 simultaneously to program the default settings to your requirements.
The screen will now read:
SW3/SEL---------SW4/ADV

Press SW3 to toggle through 4 selections
1.) Screen = MANUAL DUMP
--------------Press SW4 to toggle between two modes: MANUAL DUMP* o AUTO DUMP
Manual Dump = numbers are stored in the Decoder's memory
Auto Dump = numbers are send directly to the computer or printer and not saved in memory.
*MANUAL DUMP is best when starting to use the decoder.
Press
SW3 to go to the next mode:
2.) Screen=
GAP IN SECS 03
--------------Press SW4 to add more time between tones or strings of tones (3 seconds is the default setting).
Press
SW3 to the last mode:
3.) Screen = BAUD RATE 4800
--------------Press SW4 to toggle between the two baud rates BAUD RATE 4800 y BAUD RATE 9600
Press
SW3 to return to the original screen:
4.) Screen =
SW3/SEL---------SW4/ADV

Press buttons SW1 & SW2 at the same time to return to the standard screen
Screen =
DTMF-LOG-VER.2.1 again.

Clear Memory

Press SW2 for 5 seconds to clear the decoder's memory.
You can confirm that the memory is really cleared by doing the following:
Press
SW4 to enter the SCROLL MODE
Screen =
SCROLL ...1F.....2BK .
----------Press SW1 to scroll to the right. Screen = $$$$$$$$BOTTOM
----------Press SW2 to scroll to the left. ..Screen = BOTTOM$$$$$$$$
Press SW4 again to leave SCROLL MODE and return to the opening screen.
Screen = DTMF-LOG-VER.2.1 again.

Using the Decoder

To use the decoder, activate the tape recorder if you are getting the tones from a prerecorded tape or wait until someone makes a telephone call if you are using the decoder in real time.

As DTMF characters are received, the opening screen will disappear and the characters last received will be displayed. These will stay on the screen until you either a.) enter and leave SCROLL or b.) turn the power switch OFF and then back ON.

You may review the numbers displayed by going into SCROLL MODE
Press SW4, then pressSW1 or SW2 to scroll in either direction.
Press
SW4 again to return to regular screen

When the memory is full, you can clear it, as described above or send the information to a computer or printer as described below.

Using the Decoder with a Computer or Printer

Unless you have cleared the memory after receiving data, you will now have stored characters. To retrieve the data and put it on hard copy, connect the DATA jack to a serial printer or PC port. You need a stereo cable. Tip is data in, Ring is data out and barrel is ground. Configure to 4,800 Baud, N, 8, 1. Turn the Power Switch ON and press SW3. All memory content will dump. Empty spaces will show as dollar signs.

Dumping the memory does not clear it. You may wish to retain the contents and continue monitoring. If so, the unit will revert to READING/LOGGING after the memory has dumped. Note that in the AUTO DUMP mode, on-board storage does not take place.

When interconnecting to a PC (Duplex) use the following keyboard instructions to perform the desired functions:
<AA> Places the decoder in the AUTO DUMP mode.
<CC> Cancels AUTO DUMP (returns to MANUAL)
<DD> DUMPS memory contents
<PP> Places pointer at bottom of memory
<QQ> Clears RAM and places pointer at bottom
<SS> Toggles between MF and DTMF decode

16. When DTMF signals are received a lower case "d" will precede the digit string. When a pulse signal is received, a lower case "p" precedes the digit string.
