The microphone has a built-in preamp that uses a single AA battery which will work for about 300 hours of continuous use. The battery is disconnected when the microphone is unscrewed from its holder.
The body of the microphone is isolated from the holder by means of rubber bands. This helps stop the transmission of noise from the handle to the microphone.
